Since 2016, the Honda Accord has gone through two different generations. Of those two generations, Honda has released many models popular among car shoppers due to their balance of affordability and quality. Today, the current model year Accord offers many high-quality features to drivers, including enhanced safety driver-assistive technologies, high-end entertainment features, and excellent fuel-efficient options.

Whether you're looking to purchase a used model or you want to buy the current Accord, there are many great options available for car shoppers. We'll take a closer look at the types of models offered from the last two generations of the Honda Accord, so you'll have a better understanding of the right model for your needs.

The Early Generations

The Honda Accord was first released in 1976. Since then, the car has evolved over many generations as it has adapted to new technologies and better designs. However, even in the 70s, the Accord was a popular model among car shoppers due to its affordable price and practical features.

Honda has retained this reputation for quality and reliability at affordable prices. Due to this long-standing reputation, the Accord is well-known and popular among car shoppers looking to buy a midsize sedan. Throughout its evolution, Honda has continued to add new features and enhance existing ones to keep up with the competition. However, no matter the model year, car shoppers can expect the same practicality that makes the Accord a high-value purchase.

The Ninth Generation Honda Accord (2013-2017)

In 2013, Honda revealed the ninth generation of the Accord. In this generation, Honda made big strides in technology and features. Some of the new technology features include Bluetooth and a backup camera. Some of the innovative safety features include a lane departure warning and a forward collision warning.

As this generation of Accords progressed over the years, Honda started to include more standard technology features. The 2016 Accord included new technology like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities. This smartphone integration technology allows drivers or passengers to connect their smartphones to the vehicle.

Additionally, the 2016 Accord has excellent safety features. As an optional package on all trim levels, the Honda Sensing suite offers drivers features such as a forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and a lane departure warning with steering assist.

The 2017 model offers many of the same features and driving experience as the preceding year. Some of the most significant changes are the inclusion of a Sport Special Edition trim, which has heated leather seats and a remote start, among other desirable features.

The Tenth Generation Honda Accord (2018-present)

The tenth generation of the Honda Accord is the latest edition of the model. Starting in 2018 and continuing to the present year, this generation features high-end technology features, a more aggressive look, and a powerful engine.

The 2018 model brought significant changes from the previous generation, including an all-new redesign. With this generation, the model has a rougher and more aggressive look compared to the previous models. Inside, the cabin is more spacious than previous models despite having a slightly shorter overall length. Car shoppers will be able to choose from a turbocharged 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.

Since the 2018 model brought an all-new redesign to the Accord, the 2019 and 2020 models don't offer any notable changes. However, the 2021 model offers noticeable improvements in styling and other minor enhancements. The exterior styling updates are mostly concentrated in the front grille, which is now wider and features chrome accents. There are also new LED fog lights on most trims. Inside the cabin, there are some new technology changes like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There are also new standard safety features, such as a rear seat belt alert for backseat passengers and a reminder alert to check the backseat before leaving the vehicle.

In 2022, the Accord features many high-quality standard features on all trims, including an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities, and a push-button start. There's also a change-up in the trims available with this model. Replacing the EX in the hybrid lineup is a new Sport trim. It has upgraded features such as sport pedals, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a rear spoiler.

The current model year Accord is the latest in the generation and features some exciting new changes. Among the updates with the 2023 Accord is a redesign from the previous styling. The new design is a more sophisticated exterior that resembles the styling of the Civic. Besides new a new style, the Accord also features upgraded technology features. Car shoppers may be interested in the 12.3-inch touchscreen or Google Built-In technology.

Safety features remain much the same from previous models in this generation. However, in the 2023 model, drivers will also be able to utilize the traffic jam assist feature. This feature keeps the Accord centered in the lane at a safe following distance from a car in front. For drivers who find themselves stuck in commuter traffic regularly, this feature can be helpful for navigating slow-moving traffic.

The Honda Accord is an iconic car that has continued to evolve over the years, keeping up with changing technology and performance expectations. Though it's come a long way since its early beginnings, the Accord is still a reliable and practical choice for car shoppers looking to find a sedan that holds its value well.
