For 2018, Maserati has made significant updates to the Ghibli. Outside, there are new front and rear bumpers, a revised grille, and new LED headlights. Underhood, the twin-turbo V6 gets a boost, with output now rated at 424 horsepower (up from 404) and torque upped to 428 pound-feet, from 406. Electric power steering debuts, as does a new traction control system. Finally, two new submodels, GranLusso and GranSport, have been added to the Ghibli, Ghibli S, and Ghibli S Q4 trims, which provide a touch of luxury or athleticism to the car depending on selection.
Maserati excels at blending its sporting roots with unsurpassed luxury and Italian style. The Ghibli furthers that trend, and the midsize luxury sport sedan offers the complete package.
Two models are offered: a base rear-wheel-drive Ghibli and the up-level Ghibli S, plus an all-wheel-drive variant in the Ghibli S Q4. All are powered by a Ferrari-built, twin-turbocharged 3.0L V6. In the base model it delivers 345 horsepower, while the S and S Q4 benefits from special camshafts, more boost and more aggressive engine management, resulting in 424 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque. All models utilize an 8-speed automatic transmission with five different shift modes. The base car scoots to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds, while the sure-footed S Q4 hits the mark in less than 4.6 seconds, on its way to a 177-mph top speed.
The Ghibli's elegant design recalls the sedan's older sibling, the Quattroporte. Underneath the lovely steel and aluminum skin, the Ghibli rides on a solid chassis sprung by an alloy suspension with double wishbones up front and a multi-link setup in the rear. The brakes are from Brembo. Maserati claims the base Ghibli offers a perfect 50/50 weight distribution.
Standard equipment includes 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, keyless entry and ignition, leather upholstery with 6-way power seats, a heated tilt/telescopic steering wheel, an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment display, rearview camera and an 8-speaker audio system. S Q4 models add adaptive headlights, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, a power sunroof and more.
Ghiblis ordered with the GranLusso treatment add chrome bumper inserts, a front spoiler, wood trim, 12-way adjustable seats, and optional Ermenegildo Zegna 2-tone silk upholstery. Opting for the GranSport treatment gets you a more athletic look, with a more aggressive front end, sport seats, sport pedals, and a sport steering wheel with paddle shifters.
Several options and packages allow for a fully customized Ghibli. Skyhook adaptive suspension offers driver-selectable Normal and Sport modes that reduce body roll. A 15-speaker, 1,280-watt Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system provides exceptional auditory stimulation, and a Wi-Fi system means you never have to disconnect. Navigation is available, as are several leather and wood grain choices, heated and ventilated front seats, plus a range of alloy wheels in sizes ranging from 19 to 21 inches.
